NDC: Sagnarigu Constituency election updates

By: Baba Musah

The elections started with the youth wing and women’s wing elections earlier today. Under the youth wing, 3 people contested for the Deputy Constituency Youth Organizer position while 2 people contested for the main Youth Organizer position.

[ads1]In the case of the women’s wing elections, only one person (the incumbent Deputy Women Organizer) went for the Women Organizer position unopposed. For the Deputy Women’s Organizer position, 3 people contested for that position.

At the end of voting for the youth wing and women’s wing elections, Nantogmah Khadijah was duly elected as Deputy Women’s Organizer. For the youth wing positions, Musah Alhassan was duly elected as the Constituency Youth Organizer while Sulemana Ibrahim Satiya Naa was also duly elected as Deputy Constituency Youth Organizer.

After the youth and women’s wings elections ended, there was some ‘break’ time to enable people to pray, take lunch etc. When the elections process resumed, all the four newly elected executives (Constituency Women’s Organizer and her deputy and Constituency Youth Organizer and his deputy) were duly sworn in as newly elected executives.

Then, before the voting (process) for the remaining executives’ positions commenced, an error was detected regarding the ballots for the ‘non-portfolio positions’ known as “other 8 positions”.

One of the aspirants had his name omitted from the ballot paper. The affected aspirant was reportedly disqualified initially after the vetting process due to problems with his party “dues” receipts but he was later cleared to contest perhaps after the appeal process after vetting.

When this issue cropped up, it generated some arguments and controversy, so those mandated to conduct the elections decided to put on hold voting for that particular or affected positions“other 8” so that voting could start for the remaining positions while that sorted out.

The voting process began with the incumbent constituency executives, queuing to cast their votes to be followed by the remaining delegates as it’s normally done.

Somewhere along the line, an allegation came up that one of the EC officials conducting the elections especially the one who was in charge of giving out ballots for the deputy secretary position had allegedly given 2 ballots to one person to vote.

This allegation wasn’t proven. When the unproven allegations got out to supporters and sympathizers of aspirants for that position, it stalled the smooth voting process. The regional chairman Chief Azorka appealed to everyone to remain calm while the issue was being attended to. He assured the candidates that the challenges were going to be sort out.

However, some people decided to interfere the smooth voting process, as a result, the voting had to be suspended for a later date yet to be communicated to the aspirants in order to sort out the challenges.

As expected of him, the member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Hon. Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini was equally present. He came to the elections venue after the youth and women wing elections ended and winners declared already.
He was on the high table with Hon. Alhassan Sorogu Doo, immediate former DCE for Sagnarigu, Hon. Hajia Boya, former Deputy Women and Children’s Minister, Regional Treasurer of NDC Mr Tanko Rashid Computer who doubles as the NDC northern regional elections director etc.

The Member of Parliament Hon. Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini was NOT chased away as falsely alleged or reported. Neither did anyone touch him let alone beaten as falsely reported.

Naturally, once the elections were put on hold, people had to leave. In fact he left the venue in the company of the former DCE of Sagnarigu, by which time regional chairman had left.

It’s important for people to note that the elections process at the Constituency level is handled by the CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS DIRECTORATE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE REGIONAL ELECTIONS DIRECTORATE.
The ballots and accreditation are handled by the regional elections directorate with the constituency elections directorate. However EC officials are brought on board to help in the conduct of the elections with the support of the elections directorate.

I want to use this opportunity to urge all and sundry especially fellow party members particularly those seeking to occupy party offices, our biggest target should be how to kick out the corrupt and super incompetent Akufo Addo-Bawumia npp government in 2020 and all efforts must be geared towards this common goal. Ghanaians will not forgive NDC if we fail to rescue this country from the hands of the autopilot npp government.

The media is also encouraged to double check their information from the right quarters before rushing to publish such information only for it to turn out to be fake news. The media has a responsibility to feed the public with accurate information and not fake news.

I must however say that, as party members, people seeking to occupy party positions at any level of the party must not be seen to be orchestrating things that will attract negative publicity for the party at any time. We all have a responsibility to guard against things that give the party negative media attention.

If you send your child to hear-after, the child will certainly come back even if you don’t recognize the said child. A word to a wise is enough.
