NDC Rejoins IPAC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejoined the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), a group of political parties that advises the Electoral Commission (EC).

On Sunday, Fifi Fiave Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, issued a statement saying the party was confident about making IPAC work again.

“The NDC is optimistic about the revitalization of the IPAC, drawing inspiration from the robust Consensus Building Platform established during the tenures of Dr Kwadwo Afari Djan and Charlotte Osei as Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission of Ghana,” he said.

The statement said the party intends to collaborate to improve Ghana’s electoral system, which will benefit each political party and preserve the democratic ideals of the country.

The NDC had earlier hinted at returning to IPAC on December 14, 2023, at a stakeholder meeting held by the National Peace Council in Peduase, Eastern Region. During the meeting, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, requested the NDC to rejoin IPAC, citing the party’s substantial contribution to the democratic process.

“I would like to use this opportunity to invite the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to our IPAC meetings. We do realize that since 2021, NDC has not been present at our IPAC meetings. We miss them, we miss their fire. I extend an olive branch in the interest of peace in our country. We invite them to IPAC,” the EC boss said.
