NDC Presidential primaries: Police warn hoodlums; ban motorbikes at voting centres

The Ghana Police Service has issued a warning to groups or individuals planning to create tension during and after the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential primaries to back down on their plans.

The Police in a statement said they will beef up security at all polling centres across the country on Saturday, February 23, to ensure lives and properties are protected and have in effect, banned motorbikes at voting and collation centres.

“Unauthorised persons found carrying offensive weapons be it gun, knives, machetes, etc within the parameters or close to voting and collation centres shall be apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law. No motorbike whether registered or unregistered shall be allowed anywhere close to a voting or collation centre. Police shall be in charge of security. Any unauthorized security arrangement shall not be tolerated,” the police cautioned in a statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Eklu.

Executives of the NDC, delegates, sympathizers and Ghanaians, in general, have also been urged to “cooperate with the police to ensure successful and peaceful elections” while persons with information to enhance the maintenance of law and order during the election have been encouraged to relay them to the police.
