The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has described as frivolous the continuous labelling of the Akufo-Addo led government as corrupt by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), referring to their kind of politics as ‘jealous’ filled, MyNewsGh.com reports.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM hosted by Kwame Adinkra ahead of government’s Town Hall Meeting in Kumasi monitored, the Ofoase-Ayeribi legislator said, “the general principle of accusation and counter-accusation kind of politics being practiced in this country is helping no one.”

He continued, “if we want to fight against corruption, the relevant bodies in the country mandated to fight corruption must be allowed to thoroughly work and investigate corruption claims without we championing propaganda in the face of obvious adherence to due process.”

The Minister of Information chided the NDC for its incessant practice of ‘propaganda’ politics without subjecting issues to strict perusal.

“Since the inception of government in 2017, the NDC has engaged in series of allegations without proof and when we refer them to the issues being investigated by the appropriate authorities, they brand us liars and remain unchanging in their allegations.”

Commenting on the missing excavators, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained that Ghanaians should collectively allow the institutions of the country to work and offer their support to the strict adherence of due process to see to the logical conclusion of the matter rather than focus on unsubstantiated propaganda.

“But we always say, due process must be honoured in corruption fight. The issues of excavators have come up for the past two to three weeks. Prof. Frimpong Boateng upon acknowledging the missing excavators petitioned the Police to assist with investigation. This is good news. Same is being done in the Airbus saga acknowledging due process by allowing the institutions to work.

What we all need to do is to follow the work of the institution to see to the issues logical conclusion and not object to the investigation like the Minority is doing now. They are the same people who accuse us of not investigating corruption-related allegations and now they want us to stop. Why should we stop?” He questioned.

Oppong Nkrumah stated that the NDC has had it in their history of cooking propaganda in election season but the government remains unbothered this time around and Ghanaians continue to refuse to buy into their ‘weak’ politics.

“Kwame, let me give you a history. 2008, before the elections, our brothers from the NDC made unsubstantiated allegations against the then NPP government. My own brother Fiifi Kwettey spewed allegations that former President Kufuor has stolen all Gold in Ghana. Lies and uncorroborated corruption allegations were what they embarked on in a plot to create confusion among party folks.

Skin pain type of campaign, they did a lot and same have they started now. This is the reason why the President says he will investigate all corruption allegations.”

“They haven’t stopped that nature of theirs and it is same they want to do this year but whatever they allege, we will investigate. If the same comes from their camp, we will investigate. As Ghanaians and journalists, we cannot work with propaganda.

They recently claimed I purchased one of the missing excavators but graciously people did not buy into this propaganda knowing the kind of person I am.

Whatever claim they allege, we will investigate.” He told the host Kwame Adinkra.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology has been complacent in his task to combat ‘galamsey’ in the country and has allowed some powerful persons to engage in the activity against his own mandate of ending the illegal activity.

A minority spokesperson on Mines and Energy committee in parliament, Adams Mutawakilu has demanded of the president, the immediate dismissal of the sector Minister over what he describes as a breach of public trust and neglect of duty.
