The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, James Gunu is blaming the incidence of rejected ballots in Saturday’s Presidential primaries of the NDC, on the Nana Addo government, saying the economic hardship under his watch is the reason for the rejected ballots.
According to Mr. Gunu, in advanced countries, with high literacy rate and good economic conditions, the tendency of recording rejected ballots in an election is minimal, a case which is different in Ghana.
Per the records from collating sheet, the Volta and Oti regions recorded a total of 22533 vote cast, with 59 rejected ballots out of the 23216 registered delegates.
Mr. James Gunu who seems unhappy with the rejected ballots in the region and the records nationwide said, “Ghanaians should blame the managers of the economy for the rejected ballots papers. In advanced economies with high literacy rates where people have living jobs, eat good food thrice a day, clothing and shelter, you can’t have rejected votes”.
He added however that, the NDC would do vigorous voter education, ahead of the 2020 general elections to reduce the incidence of the rejected ballots.
“We just have to do vigorous voter education to minimize the issue of rejected ballots in the 2020 general elections. This we would do, to boot out this non-performing government out of power in order to bring permanent solutions to the current economic hardships of the good people of Ghana,” he said.
