NDC Executive ‘Exposed’ Over Claims That Bawumia’s Brother Was a Security Guard in the U.K.

Krobea Kwabena Asante, a presidential staffer, has dismissed claims that Ibrahim Bawumia, the brother of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has worked as a security guard in the United Kingdom.

According to Mr. Asante, the Vice President’s brother has been a recognized contractor for nearly two decades and holds one of the highest licenses in the country.

His comments were in response to claims made by Kofi Adoli, Secretary of the UK/Ireland Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that Ibrahim Bawumia had no experience in construction prior to his brother becoming Vice President.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Adoli accused the Vice President’s brother of receiving lucrative contracts from the ruling government due to his relationship with the second gentleman of the land. He cited contracts for the construction of the Sunyani Airport runway and Cocoa roads as questionable deals awarded to Mr. Bawumia.

In his response, the presidential staffer said Mr. Ibrahim Bawumia established his first construction firm in 2006 and has been active since then. He claimed that the contractor secured a contract worth over US$10 million under the John Mahama administration in 2013.

“Ibrahim Bawumia has been a contractor for years. He was even upgraded from A3B3 Licence to A1B1 Licence in 2013. The highest Licence in Ghana all under John Mahama.
“In 2014, He was awarded a contract for GH₵35m for a project: Sunyani Outer Ring road. At that time, it was more than US$10m which they even didn’t pay him when it was due. Additionally, his company was established in 2006 when Dr. Bawumia was not even into politics,” the presidential staffer wrote on social media.
