NDC calls on IGP to beef up security at Upper West Akyem registration center

The Eastern Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to strengthen the security system at the district office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) in Upper West Akyem.

The NDC is alleging that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman, Nana Adei Obuobi, is trading in confusion and intimidating the EC’s officials by inciting thugs to fire gunshots, causing disturbances.

In a press release issued by the Eastern Regional Secretary, Jamal Konney said, “Per our intelligence, the thugs he brought to disrupt the registration process are members of the Okyenhene taskforce.”

“We call on the IGP and the Regional Commander to beef up security at Adeiso to help avert any unforeseen circumstances,” the press release appealed.

“We are also calling on Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, to call his men to order.”

The press release cautioned that the NDC cannot be intimidated by the NPP and its surrogates in the region.

“We as a party believe in democratic processes, but we will and can never cower to submission to any entity.

“NPP should advise themselves and think twice if this is the approach they will employ going into 2024, because they do not have a monopoly over violence.”

The limited voter registration exercise is scheduled to end in all 268 EC District offices across the country on Monday, October 2.
