The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked government to amend the proposed utilization plan for the $3 billion Eurobond proceeds, to make funds available to support the country’s COVID-19 fight and related expenses.
A member of the NDC COVID-19 Technical Team, Cassiel Ato Forson (MP), speaking at a media encounter in Accra proposed the alternative funding strategy so that Ghana can immediately have the “needed resources to drastically escalate our readiness and resilience”.
Government, after announcing a $100 million fund for the COVID-19 fight, now says it is looking up to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank to access support.
The NDC is however urging government to amend the proposed utilization plan “to address the pressing COVID-19 related expenditures and financing gap that is inevitably awaiting us as a result of this pandemic, to keep Ghanaians safe and to safeguard the economy against potential macroeconomic shocks and revenue shortfalls”.
