NDC accuses EC of manipulating in Ayawaso Central election

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of engaging in alleged malpractice in the Ayawaso Central Constituency during the ongoing collation of election results.

At a press briefing, NDC representatives expressed concerns about irregularities in the collation process, claiming that the EC officials failed to properly account for votes from some polling stations. The party also alleges that attempts were made to manipulate results in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“The Electoral Commission is failing to adhere to transparent processes, and this undermines the credibility of the election. We demand immediate intervention to rectify these anomalies,” said an NDC spokesperson at the event.
Supporters of the NDC in Ayawaso Central have also staged protests, demanding that the EC address their concerns and ensure that the rightful winner of the parliamentary seat is declared. Security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent any escalation of tensions.

The Electoral Commission is yet to respond to these allegations, while political analysts emphasize the importance of maintaining a transparent and fair electoral process to uphold the trust of the electorate.

This highly contested race features incumbent MP Henry Quartey of the NPP facing his 2020 challenger, Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the NDC. The outcome could either reaffirm the NPP’s long-standing dominance or signal a shift in favour of the NDC
