Nana Addo appoints Yawson Amoah as DCE for Sefwi Akontombra

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Yawson Amoah as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sefwi Akontombra.

The President made this announcement when he paid a courtesy call on the chief of Sefwi Akontombra, Nana Kwabena Bioh II as part of his tour of the Western North Region on Saturday, September 4, 2021.

His appointment comes less than 24 hours after the President indicated on Takoradi-based, Skyy Power FM that matters relating to the appointment of new Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives would be resolved before the end of September.

Yawson Amoah was the DCE for Sefwi Akontombra during President Akufo-Addo’s first tenure.

Earlier this year, Nana Kwabena Bioh II, called on President Akufo-Addo to reappoint Yawson Amoah as the District Chief Executive for the area during the annual Elluoluo festival held at Sefwi Akotombra.

He noted that the four year term period for Mr Yawson as the District Chief Executive had been a blessing to the people of Sefwi -Akotombra following his tremendous achievements, hence the need to retain him as DCE.

Prior to now, the President has justified the delay in announcing his MMDCEs in his second term presidency few months to the end of his first year.

He said the delay is to offer him the opportunity to scrutinize his list of appointees to come out with individuals who would have won his conviction.

Expounding that, “I want to be sure of the competencies, political suitabilities among others before announcing the MMDCEs. It is not an easy task. There is a need for broad consultations. I have set up committees at the regional and national levels to make recommendations for me. At the end of the day, they are my appointees at the local level and I will need to ensure that they are fit for the job.

Nana Addo also noted that the full list of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be released this month.

“All these will be finalised by the end of this month”.

President Akufo-Addo has come under intense pressure over the delay in the appointment of substantive MMDCEs.

The Member of Parliament(MP) for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, example, has hauled the government to court over the continuous stay of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in office eight months after a new administration came into office.

Meanwhile, the Ranking Member of the Local Government Committee of Parliament, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has also demanded that President Akufo-Addo urgently publishes the list of the appointed MMDCEs.
