Spreading of misinformation if not checkmated through outright dismissal, is capable of eroding national ethics and could twist the impressionistic minds of Ghanaian children to believe that politics is all about the deliberate spreading of falsehoods and spreading of alleged falsehoods has no consequences.
Documents and authentic information available reveal that news that the C.E.O of Menzgold, Nana Mensah has been arrested in Dubai through the effort of the Ghanaian authority is false. Government and party communicators are forcefully defending this lie to clear the President. Claim by government functionaries and propagandists that NAM1-was arrested in Dubai through government’s initiative is not only false, it also vindicates victims of the Menzgold saga that the President and his associates knew everything about NAM’s business and gave him all the support he needed to project his business. Government wants to trivialise the issue through these lies and misinformation.
NAM1 was arrested in Dubai in December 2018 in connection with a fraud case. The arrest and detention in Dubai has nothing to do with the pending case in Ghana. He was already languishing in prison as at the time government issued the arrest warrant. Government and its agencies wouldn’t have known that NAM1 had been arrested in Dubai if Nana Mensah had not spoken via phone with the police officers who stormed his father’s house. It was the father who connected them to his son..
Gabby Otchere-Darko in a Facebook post alleged that the C.E.O was arrested and granted bail. He did not specify where the arrest was made. The CID boss said her outfit never arrested NAM1. Checks later revealed that EOCO invited Nana Mensah somewhere in August in connection with his business but was granted self recognizance. Some Menzgold workers voluntarily, furnished the security agencies and government with facts about happenings in the company and advised the security agencies and government to act quickly on the matter before customers suffer what they going through currently. Why EOCO allegedly granted Nana Mensah a self recognizance bail with all the facts furnished it by the Menzgold workers and some customers, is another critical issue to look at.
The President’s private dealings with Nana Mensah, the Tourism Minister’s dealings with the man and other facts emanating from the Presidency and Menzgold make nonsense the Presidency’s statement defending the President against allegation of complicity and dishonesty. Per the facts available, NAM breached his bail conditions and stopped reporting to EOCO as far back as September 2018.
Apart from EOCO, other state bodies were investigating his activities so why was he not apprehended. Why was the President wining and dining with NAM1 and endorsing conferring of awards on him when he had all these information about his activities. The common practice (legal) when it comes these matters is confiscation of passports, freezing of accounts and seizure of other relevant documents of suspects. EOCO confiscates passports of suspects whose cases come nowhere near NAM1’s in terms of magnitude. Why they allowed him to hold his passport and breach their bail conditions is another issue.

The Presidency, some security heads who are part of the cabal at the Presidency are being dishonest. The fake arrest information is part of their agenda to clear the President of the mess he finds himself. This latest twist confirms that what some Ghanaians said about the insincerity of the current President’s anti-corruption vibes. They have paid some journalists and media houses to lie that the arrest of NAM 1 in Dubai, was initiated by the government of Ghana.
According to some close associates of the Menzgold boss, the company hurriedly settled some top NPP officials and officials of state who had invested in Menzgold. EOCO deliberately glossed over the bail breach and didn’t seize his passport and freeze his assets because of the orders he received from above.
The situation of the customers wouldn’t have been that miserable if the government had acted professionally. The fake Rambo style approach, the lies, the false pretences and statements that emanated from the Presidency and Bank of Government created unnecessary panic and the crisis we witnessing. The situation wouldn’t have been this terrible if government acted quickly and sincerely on information it received from the public including some Menzgold workers. Government was conferring awards on the man in spite of all the terrible things people were saying about the man and his businesses, the Tourism Minister travelled across the world with him, he was enjoying full VVIP treatment and had unlimited access to the President.
