Mr. Akufo Addo described himself as an incorruptible person and promised Ghanaians will not entertain corruption in his government. But all his promises to curb corruption stand exposed as recently conducted polls by some reputable media houses and civil society study proves.
The study reveals that corruption has not only increased under Akufo Addo’s tenure, but most of the people in the country also believe that Akufo Addo is very corrupt and not serious about fighting corruption which has infested his government. Perception about this government’s commitment to fighting corruption in government has seen a sharp decline.
The study found that the Presidency (Vice President’s office included), the Communication Ministry, the Transport Ministry, the education ministry, National Communication Authority, Cocobod are considered to be the most corrupt wings of the administration. Compared with the period between 2013 and 2016 the study reveals that the perception of corruption in government has increased significantly.
People in the strongholds of the ruling NPP say they have been let down by the Akufo Addo government despite government’s beautifully cooked economic figures. President Akufo Addo won the 2016 election the Change Message.
As President Akufo Addo mobilizes for his reelection in 2020, he and his NPP are being buffeted for a lack of jobs, falling prices of agricultural commodities, corruption, nepotism, projects cost Inflation, cronyism, suffocating taxes, unemployment. Despite government’s beautifully cooked economic figures, the fall of the cedi to a record low has exposed the government’s manipulation policy and has led to a surge in prices of fuel and other essential commodities.
According to Madam Yaa Serwa, “there is no improvement in our life. We eat basic meals a day but unable to save for other important issues” In a series of interviews in the home region of the President (Eastern Region), many people said they had been disappointed by President Akufo Addo. Rural wages have weakened across Ghana compared with a high growth period during the rule of the NDC which aggressively promoted a rural jobs scheme through its Agric policies and other intervention programmes.
Under the NDC, a boom in the construction sector sustained growth in wages but that has slowed down dramatically because of government’s cut in capital expenditure, massive corruption and implementation of useless projects such as the digital addressing system and the drones project.
Political pundits and analysts say Akufo Addo’s failure to fulfill his promises including the jobs he promised the youth would be the biggest threat to his bid for another them.
“No one here will vote for Akufo Addo” said a student of Akuafo Hall. More damage has been done to Ghana by this president and his family members than any in the past and everyone recognizes the overriding need to remove them immediately said the student.
Why the director of health services doing the advocacy work instead of the substantive minister.
The President is suffering from self-deception and pride. Under Akufo Addo, government pay $145,000 for photographs and uses almost $1 million for construction site preparation. No wonder Hawa Koomson spent Ghc 800,000 to establish a single website. Corruption under this government is mind-boggling. The Vice President has moved from economics to IT spearheading introduction and implementation of dubious contracts.
Government policies have failed totally. Ghanaians are worse off under this administration. The government owes contractors and government has not made any effort as a policy to pay our indigenous contractors. Many companies have laid off their workers, Banks are collapsing and economic pundits have predicted doom the years ahead because of government’s bad decisions, massive corruption, nepotism and refusal to invest in capital projects.
