The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition NDC, Amos Blessing Amorse has revealed that the submission in Parliament by the MP for Ayawaso North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region over plans to construct some 30 roads in the Ayawaso Constitiences has exposed the Akufo-Addo led NPP government.

According to the vociferous youth organizer in the Facebook post sighted by Awake News, said “In that video, while many thought the young legislator will sing the usual praise of the Committee’s work, he decided to do the ‘unthinkable’. To me, he decided to expose the NPP government, their discrimination against constituencies known to be NDC strongholds and the NPP’s hatred for certain communities.”

“What I gleaned from Hon Jajah’s submission was that if the NPP is given the opportunity to rule this country for the next 4 years, God forbid, Ayawaso North and East constituencies should forget about anything called development.” – he added

According to him, on government’s plans to construct 30 roads in all the four Ayawaso Constituencies, it has turned out after the Parliamentary Committee’s works on the documents that all the 30 roads were allocated to only Ayawaso West and East where NPP has MPs.

“It is argued, of which it is patently true anyway, that the NPP deliberately allocated all the 30 roads to Ayawaso West Wuogon and Ayawaso Central because they have their MPs there and want to reward those constituencies for voting for them or keeping faith with them to the neglect of the other two Ayawaso constituencies.” – he revealed

“There is another school of thought, which is also true to some extent, that the NPP fears Ayawaso Central and Ayawaso West Wuogon may slip through their fingers in 2020, hence the need to give them special attention to avert the impending cataclysmic electoral tsunami. It is this mentality that Ayawaso North and East are not our constituencies that has informed the NPP government’s decision to abandon the Nima drains project started by John Dramani Mahama.”

For him, it was this reason why on the floor of Parliament “first deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Wusu; Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta were all not comfortable with Hon Jajah pointing out the deliberate orchestration by the NPP government to starve Ayawaso North and East of development. Both Ayawaso North and East constituencies have over the years been held by the opposition NDC.”

“Conversely, Ayawaso West Wuogon and Ayawaso Central constituencies are NPP controlled seats.”

Ayawaso North in Focus

It’s late but let me clear this off my chest. I’ve seen a number of my friends from Ayawaso North share a video of their MP, Yussif Jajah on their Facebook and WhatsApp. Some have shared it on their WhatsApp status and others have gone to the extent of sending it to me. The video contains a presentation Hon Jajah made on the floor of Parliament in support of a report by the Roads and Highways Committee of Parliament.

In that video, while many thought the young legislator will sing the usual praise of the Committee’s work, he decided to do the ‘unthinkable’. To me, he decided to expose the NPP government, their discrimination against constituencies known to be NDC strongholds and the NPP’s hatred for certain communities. What I gleaned from Hon Jajah’s submission was that if the NPP is given the opportunity to rule this country for the next 4 years, God forbid, Ayawaso North and East constituencies should forget about anything called development.

Now what really did Jajah say on the floor of Parliament? He pointed out that, the Committee’s report which was titled Ayawaso roads, captured 30 roads that the government intends to construct. Out of these 30 roads, not a single one is cited in either Ayawaso East or North. And the gravamen of his argument was that all the 30 roads are cited in Ayawaso Central and Ayawaso West Wuogon constituencies. The legislator, an MP for Ayawaso North, in my opinion, was not envious of his neighboring constituencies when he made that observation. It was a very useful submission that needed to be captured in the records of Parliament for futuristic purpose.

Here lies the ‘meat’ of the argument and why the first deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Wusu; Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta were all not comfortable with Hon Jajah pointing out the deliberate orchestration by the NPP government to starve Ayawaso North and East of development. Both Ayawaso North and East constituencies have over the years been held by the opposition NDC. Conversly, Ayawaso West Wuogon and Ayawaso Central constituencies are NPP controlled seats.

It is argued, of which it is patently true anyway, that the NPP deliberately allocated all the 30 roads to Ayawaso West Wuogon and Ayawaso Central because they have their MPs there and want to reward those constituencies for voting for them or keeping faith with them to the neglect of the other two Ayawaso constituencies. There is another school of thought, which is also true to some extent, that the NPP fears Ayawaso Central and Ayawaso West Wuogon may slip through their fingers in 2020, hence the need to give them special attention to avert the impending cataclysmic electoral tsunami. It is this mentality that Ayawaso North and East are not our constituencies that has informed the NPP government’s decision to abandon the Nima drains project started by John Dramani Mahama.

This explains why residents of Ayawaso North have every reason to celebrate their MP for such a classic display of unmatched advocacy. Hon Jajah defended the interest of his Constituency to a fault and deserves our applause. It’s a feather in his cup ahead of the next election. Because if the NPP government, despite having candidates in both Ayawaso North and East, could decide to overlook them in terms of resource allocation, then the electorates in these two constituencies have no justification supporting the NPP not to talk of voting for it. The NDC did not discriminate when it came to sharing of the national cake. Under the NDC, all the 4 Ayawaso constituencies had their fair share of the national cake. Nobody was left out and this explains why NDC projects are dotted in all constituencies.

I’m particularly happy, not because Hon Jajah did what he did, but because as a youth leader, seeing another young man fighting for the interest of his people, gives me hope that the NDC and Ghana has a future. It takes a few genuine hearts to remember the sufferings of their people and work towards combating them when they grab political power. If someone has resolved to do exactly why he was chosen ahead of other capable persons, the least expected of all of us, regardless of our differences, is to pay him on the shoulder and say, ‘bro, you have our support. Continue to shine and uplift your community from the duldrums of deprivation”
