The President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo will later this morning [Thursday, September 16, 2021], submit a list of nominated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to the Minister for Local Government and Regional Reorganisation.
Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, made this known in a Facebook post.
According to him, the President has finalized the list of nominees, hence assured that the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development will soon announce the names.
“List of MMDCE nominees finalized by President Akufo-Addo; it will be submitted in the morning to the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon. Dan Botwe. Expect the list to be announced by the Minister very soon.”
An enormous number of the populace have criticized the government for the delay in appointing new MMDCEs nine months into a new administration.
However, the Presidency has rescinded claims that the delay in selecting Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is hindering development at the local government level.
At a presser in Jubilee House, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin stated; “I don’t think there should be any cause for concern because work is still ongoing at the various MMDA levels”.
“Currently, there is no vacuum at the various districts, metropolitan areas and municipalities because the old MMDCEs are still in office on a day-to-day basis going about their respective duties.”
