Former Black Queens player and coach Mercy Tagoe has been appointed as the head coach of the national U-23 female team. Mercy Tagoe thus becomes the first coach of the newly established team. She will be assisted by Halifax Ladies FC coach Priscilla Dicxon.
Mercy Tagoe was in charge of the Black Queens until January 2023 when she was replaced by Nora Hauptle. She led the team to victory in the WAFU Zone B Women’s Cup in Ivory Coast as an interim coach in 2018 before assuming permanent responsibilities.
The former FIFA referee and Amidaus Professionals coach holds a CAF License A coaching certificate and has a wealth of experience as a player, referee and coach.
Meanwhile, the GFA has as part of its Women’s Football Strategy appointed coaches for the other newly established national teams. The U-21 will be headed by Dora Zuta and assisted by Florence Amuzu while the U-19 will be led by Anita Wiredu and assisted by Daniel Nii Adjei.
Taking charge of the new U-18 national female teams are Charles Anokye-Frimpong and Gifty Ayew Asare respectively as as head and assistant. Bernice Adutwumwaa will lead the U-16 team and be assisted by Linda Prah.
