Media briefing on Covid19 is useless if you cannot call NIA Boss to order – Akufo Addo told

The Akufo Addo government-led’s constant update on the spread of the novel coronavirus is an exercise in futility if the President cannot halt the ongoing mass registration by the National Identification Authority, deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth of the National Democratic Congress, Amos Blessing Amorse, has stated.

He explained that there is no sense in briefing Ghanaians on the state of the spread of the virus and measures being put in place to tackle it while allowing what will fuel the spread of the virus to go on.

“What is going on defies common sense. The President claims he is upbeat about fighting the spread of the virus but at the same time looking on while his appointee assembly people in rooms to register them. If the President was really committed about fighting the virus, the first thing he ought to have done was to fire Ken Attafuah when he said the NIA registration will continue despite the President’s ban on public gathering,” Mr Amorse noted.

“If those of us calling on the NIA to put on hold it’s registration are seen as opposition elements, now the Ghana Medical Association has also come out to tell the NIA boss in the face that his action may worsen our already precarious situation. Are members of the GMA too opposition elements?” the NDC youth leader quizzed.

The NIA has announced that it will continue its ongoing registration despite President Akufo Addo’s directive for ban on public gathering.

In a statement, the NIA noted that it will provide adequate preventive kits at various registration centres to ensure no registrant contracts the virus.

But some well meaning Ghanaians including the GMA has warned that if the NIA registration continues, the country risk recording more cases.
