MAHAMA- A VICTIM OF HIS GENEROSITY, HUMILITY, HONESTY AND OPENNESS

John Dramani Mahama

Former President Mahama has intra and inter-human relationship just like all other souls, realizing that as politician and person he always husband himself and harness things around him. In making this relationship active and feasible, generosity, candidness, honesty, beneficence, altruistic commitment and kindness to his kind and others [ads1]always becomes critically crucially.

What do we expect in return for showing kindness, respect and generosity in material or spiritual format? Many will argue that they expect nothing for showing kindness and genuine respect, some will say they expect a thank you and nothing more. Whatever we say is an attestation to the complex nature of man. But in all a majority of people will expect gratitude. Gratitude, as in human, lies in the deepest recesses of a noble mind. It entails a form of reciprocal action, an avid desire to show appreciation. I am happy the founder of the NDC has apologised to his colleague former presidents for describing in a manner he himself described as inappropriate. I am not going to diagnose the content of his apology letter for good reasons.

President Mahama is not an egomaniac who will show kindness because he wants to be thanked in front of the market place and not the kind who will holds such unfortunate attacks deep in his veins. He is a flexible personality who easily let go some of these attacks. It is recorded in one of the sypnotic Gospels that ten leapers were healed by Jesus Christ, but only one came back to show gratitude and that one left with Christ’s approval. William Shakespeare the Great English playwright in his drama piece “Julius Caesar” showed how the great Caesar was attacked by the conspirators , and as a Roman war General he wanted to fight back but when he saw his own friend Brutus-a noble man- being one of them he became despondent . And it was said of him “Mark how the blood of Caesar rushed out of doors to see if Brutus so unkindly stabbed and he plunked his cursed steel away ingratitude and treachery stronger than the traitors hands burst his mighty heart…this was most unkindest cut of them all”. Ingratitude is wicked and a ghoulish trait in man. Ingratitude to kind, respectful and hard working political friends is based on our inability to understand our roles as politicians. We think that acquisition of material abundance is the sole purpose of life on earth and man will stop at nothing in bringing it to pass in his political life time.

At times, I ask myself why John Mahama is being persecuted by persons he loved, respected, supported and cherished when he was in office? But the truth is, the wealth of life is decorated, festooned and embroidered with travails, trauma and tribulations. It is only God’s presence that can determine where you stand in the midst of it all.

In my last article, I asked rhetorically, why all these hullabaloo. And was seeking for spiritual answers because of the kind of relationship I know exist between the founder and Mr Mahama, between the founder and Ibrahim Mahama, and between the founder and Lordina Mahama. Mr John Mahama as far as I know, accords his boss Mr Rawlings the respect his deserves and treated him like a biological father. Ibrahim treated him the same way and the relationship between the two can best be described as prefect. Lordina Mahama, is one of the closest allies of the founder. Based on the above facts, understanding why the founder made that pronouncement was very difficult. He [John Mahama] rebuked communicators who disrespectfully reacted to pronouncements by the founder they deemed inappropriate and he himself on many platforms disappointment journalists who used clever machinations to get him react angrily to some pronouncements by the founder. He knows him better than many of us and knows how to deal with the man whose magnanimity brought him to where he finds himself today.  Mr Mahama is not full of himself and doesn’t arrogate to himself false dignities and has never claimed the founder’s glory by showing gross ingratitude to him. On the contrary, he always singles out the founder for praises for giving him the opportunity to serve in his administration culminating in his steady rise to stardom. And he doesn’t just make these pronouncements in public but backs them with the normal father and son duties and responsibilities.

We thank God for stabilising the waters with the apology and pray he guides our actions and pronouncements going forward. The NDC is bigger than all. We must justify our actions during the days of the revolution and give true meaning to our probity and accountability principle by condemning the recession, abuse of power, persecution, division, fear, nepotism and corruption under this administration.

When the founder started his crusade against the Kufour administration, they invited him to explain some pronouncements he made. It was the same John Mahama who defied all odds, spoke vehemently against the founder’s invitation and warned the Npp administration to desist from their nefarious activities against the founder, or incur the wrath of all progressives. When BBC, VOA and Radio France International requested for our side of the story, all the so called friends of the founder escaped for fear of victimisation. It was the young Mahama who represented himself as director of communication and courageously exposed the nefarious activities of the administration.
