Protesters at Oyarifa, Ayi Mensah, and the Otinibi in the Medina Constituency of the Greater Accra Region this morning have fiercely resisted the arrest of their Member of Parliament, Francis-Xavier Sosu when he mounted the podium to address the gathering.

The residence led by the MP were protesting over poor roads in the area and have reportedly blocked the roads this morning during the protest.

According to Awake News’ reporter, when the MP mounted the podium to address the protesters he indicated that he was been invited by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command through the Adenta Divisional Command over the planned protest but he declined the invitation saying he is on Parliamentary duties and that the Police should invite him through the speaker of Parliament as mandated by law.

However, while addressing the gathering some armed Police Officers allegedly stormed the ground to arrest him creating an uncomfortable scene as the citizens resisted the arrest of their MP.

According to our reporter, it took the smart intervention of the MP’s river to be able to drive him away.

Reacting to the development,  the Deputy Greater Accra Region Youth Organizer, Amos Blessing Amorse said

“IGP Dampare has started showing his real colors and I’m sure comrades who applauded and hailed him when he was appointed have heard what his men did during a legitimate protest staged by the people of Madina?
#we’re always in a hurry to shoot ourselves I’m the foot.”.

It is not yet clear if the Police will head to the Parliament or his home to arrest the MP.
