The Madina-Dodowa road recorded the highest road accidents in the first half of 2021 in the Tema Region, the Tema Regional MTTD Commander has said.
Chief Superintendent William Asante said the stretch recorded a total of 627 road accidents from January to June 2021. More of the vehicles involved in the accident were commercial vehicles.
Out of the total, he stated 88 were serious, leaving 91 fatal.
The Tema Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander identified the mechanical fault on vehicles, careless abandon to road regulations, the bad nature of the road and excessive speeding as accounting for the road accidents.
To make the Madina-Dodowa road a safe stretch in the Tema Region, Chief Superintendent Asante said the police MTTD would increase their presence on the road.
Additionally, he said the various commercial drivers’ unions should make the registration of drivers into the unions more flexible.
“The unions can complement the work of the MTTD in checking the drivers’ licenses, checking the condition of a vehicle before it is put on the loading scale and examining the wellness of the driver before he sits behind the steering wheel to convey the passengers to their destination,” Chief Superintendent Asante explained.
