The ongoing voter registration at the Krowor EC Office could have been marred by disturbances if not for the timely intervention of the Former National Organizer of the NDC, Mr Joshua Hamidu Akamba.
Mr Akamba who toured some designated registration centres in the Greater Accra Region to monitor the exercise did well to restore calm at the Krowor EC Office.
At the office, Electoral Commission officials informed Akamba that Dumsor stopped them from working but the Member of Parliament for Krowor, Madam Agnes Naa Momo Lartey provided a Generator to Keep the process going.
While on the grounds monitoring the process, Mr Akamba was informed that some members of the NPP wanted to cause mayhem and unleash violence to disrupt the process. However, the pre-intended act met with fierce resistance from Akamba and the dedicated NDC party security apparatus.
Mr Akamba and the MP promised to ensure sanity throughout the process and urged the Police to maintain law and order for the smooth running of the registration.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has cautioned the General public of misconduct in the ongoing registration process at the various designated centres.
The Police noted that incidents of violations of the Law in some Limited Voter Registration centres would trigger action from the Service. While condemning disturbances at some centres across the country, it also pledged to deal with perpetrators according to the law.
“We condemn the unfortunate incidences experienced in some registration centres including Cape Coast, Central Region; Kukuom, Ahafo Region and Adugyama, Ashanti Region. Police have made a number of arrests as investigations continue.
“The Police will like to remind the public that the registration exercise is a civic responsibility that must be attended to in a civil manner.”
Also, the police entreated Ghanaians to be mindful of their actions at the centres, control themselves and respect the law. They added that disregard for law and order will not be tolerated.
“It is in this regard that we will like to caution the public to exercise maximum restraint and act in accordance with the laws governing the registration process.
“Police will not tolerate any disregard of the law and any persons who engage in such acts shall be dealt with accordingly.”
