Law Society of Ghana formed to break GBA’s monopoly

A group of Ghanaian lawyers have established a new professional body of lawyers called the Law Society of Ghana.

This new body which many Ghanaians have been saying is long overdue will break the monopoly of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), the only exiting professional body of lawyers as well as magistrates in Ghana until the birth of the LSG.

It is yet not clear if these lawyers have already renounced their membership of the GBA to form this new association.

The registration number of the company is CG012690222 and its tax identification number (TIN) is C0061614130.

“I hereby certify that Law Society of Ghana LBG is this day incorporated under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and that the liability of its members is limited by guarantee”.

“Given under my hand and official seal at Accra, the 28th day of February 2022” the certificate of incorporation signed by the Registrar of companies read.

Some social media users welcomed the news and waiting to see how the General Legal Council will react to the news and if they will be putting measures in place to give the LSG a slot on the Council’s Committees as in the of the GBA.
