“KUM Y3N PR3KO” – MOTHER OF ALL DEMONSTRATIONS FINALLY COMES OFF TOMORROW

Tomorrow, 9th July, 2019 will go down as a truly historic day in Ghana, as the much-awaited ”KUM Y3N PR3KO”, the mother of all demonstrations hits the streets of Accra.
After fruitful engagements with the police hierarchy, the much publicised and anticipated public protest against the hardship, insecurity and oppression occasioned by the failed leadership and mismanagement of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government is certain to take place tomorrow.

In times past, the Ghanaian people have always shown that they are a resilient, ever-questing people. From our pioneering conquest of colonial powers, through our several struggles to restore the course of democratic rule of law from oppressive regimes, we have always displayed dogged tenacity against the will of the oppressor.

This protest which is being organised by the Coalition for Social Justice is intended to draw public attention to the ever-worsening living conditions of our people expressed in the hikes in utility tariffs, increasing prices of petroleum products, rising incidences of insecurity and the oppressive and intolerant nature of the Akufo-Addo regime.

This demonstration, having received the blessing and endorsement of various interest groups including disgruntled Menzgold customers, unpaid customers of Gold Coast Fund Management, the Greater Accra Market Women’s Association, Concerned Drivers’ Union, True Drivers’ Union, The Coalition for National Sovereignty, Coalition for Restoration, Free Media Vanguards, political parties as well as the Minority Caucus in Parliament promises to be the biggest public protest so far in the annals of Ghana’s history.

Indeed, Ghanaians are not only reeling under unbearable and excruciating economic hardship, but the country is also insecure and unsafe for the ordinary citizens to live their lives freely without any fear. The media has come under unprecedented suppression as journalists continue to live in perpetual fear and intimidation as a result of the intolerant posturing of the government. The continuous emasculation of critical dissenting voices and repression of political opponents are but symptoms of a regime that is becoming increasingly intolerant to divergent views.

Tomorrow’s march is to protest the levels of insensitivity to the plight of our people that we are witnessing under President Akufo-Addo. The numerous job losses emanating from the negligent collapse of several banks and closure of targeted media houses is untenable and intolerable and Ghanaians cannot take it any longer.

Never has a government displayed such stony indifference to our economic woes after promising heaven and earth. Killer and regressive taxes continue to wreak havoc on businesses, while our President and his appointees busy themselves with corrupt and profligate expenditure.

Today, President Akufo-Addo chooses to frolic around the globe in a rented luxurious private jet, and his government prioritizes the construction of a new chamber for the house of Parliament ahead of the countless needs of the Ghanaian people.

But there is a limit to which our people can bear the brunt of bad governance, oppression and insensitivity. Tuesday, 9th July, 2019 presents a golden opportunity for the Ghanaian people to carry this message across. We must tell this government enough of the failed promises, enough of the plain thievery, enough of the ostentatious and misplaced priorities.

It matters little if President Akufo-Addo has conveniently sneaked out of the country on leave in an attempt to escape the truth. No matter where he goes, the truth will surely catch up with him because the voice of the people is the voice of God.

Demonstrators shall converge at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange between the hours of  6am to 9am in the morning and move through Farisco, Cocobod Head Office, Okaishie, Makola, High Street and end at the Hearts Park around 12:00 noon, where various speakers shall take turns to  address the demonstrators on some of the pertinent issues that have necessitated the demonstration.

Considering the harmonious and congenial nature of deliberations we have had with the Ghana Police on this march, and the mutual respect and understanding we share, we expect that adequate, disciplined and uniformed Police Officers would be deployed to offer the needed security for the protesters and the general public. As such, any attempts to lace or infiltrate the state security with party militia presented as National Security operatives would be resisted. We wish to state that we have picked enough intelligence that suggests that some hirelings and provocateurs maybe deployed to mar the spirit and essence of the demonstration, and we are sounding a strong caution that any such persons would be immediately arrested and handed over to the law enforcement agencies if they dare show up at the demonstration.
