Spokesperson for the Normalisation Committee has made some startling revelations after the first day of Black Stars camping in Accra on Tuesday.
Dan Kwaku Yeboah disclosed that the decision to sack the longtime Assistant Coach of the Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu is part of an ongoing exercise to reshuffle the members on the Black Stars back room staff and technical teams.
Rumours were rife about the sacking of the Assistant Coach some weeks back but the news was confirmed as true by the Committee’s spokesperson after the training session in a press interview.
Dan Kwaku Yeboah added that in the interim Ibrahim Tanko and Head Coach Akwasi Appiah will be in charge of the team as they play their final matches ahead of the AFCON 2019 in Egypt.
The Black Stars have qualified for their eighth straight time since 2006 and will face Kenya in the last qualifying game this weekend to decide who tops Group F.
The tournament in Egypt is very important to Ghana as they strife to win their first AFCON trophy since 1982.
“We are doing a reshuffle of the technical team and Maxwell has been affected. In the interim Coach Tanko and Akwasi Appiah are in charge of the Black Stars. When we are done with the reshuffling, the whole list will be made public,” he asserted.
Ahead of the tournament in Egypt this year, the deputy Skipper, Andre Dede Ayew has expressed optimism at the team’s chances of lifting the trophy.
He expects Ghana to maintain their performance at the AFCON and insisted that the team is ready to face any challenge that will come their way particularly as the tournament has been expanded to 24 teams.
Andre Ayew says they are focused on winning the title and with unity that is possible. He made these remarks whiles addressing press men after their training in Accra.
“Everybody wants the trophy, the players want the trophy. The country wants the trophy and we are going to do whatever we can but there is time. We are going to take one game at a time. Now they are 24 teams so it is going to be harder than before. And keep the unity” Andre Ayew noted.
He continued, “There are other about 3 or 4 countries who are at similar level to us, who also want to win and who also have similar pressure in their country but we need it, we want it and we will do everything to win it.”
