KNUST debunks Republic Hall fire outbreak

The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has said video circulating on social media that the Republic Hall has been gutted by fire and 17-persons burnt is misleading and should be treated unfounded.

In a statement issued by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, the Deputy Registrar, University Relations and sighted by Awake News said, ” we wish to inform the general public that at exactly 01:31 am on Sunday the 10 of January, 2021, a mini market consisting of 10 metal containers measuring about 4×5 feet behind the Republic Hall was gutted by fire. The market is owned and operated by some private individuals”.

A KNUST fire tender was immediately dispatched and managed to bring the fire under control at exactly 02:55 am, while all students in the Hall close to the fire scene were evacuated to safety, they asserted.

Prior to this, “Management wishes to place on record that the Republic Hall was not affected by the fire”.

The management, therefore, ” entreat the general public to disregard the misinformation on social media that the Republic Hall was burnt” and that no item belonging to any student was affected by the fire”.
