The Ketu South Municipal health Director Mr. Joseph Kwami Degley in his statement he reads at the occasion says:
World Mental Health Day, observed on 10 October, is an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues and to mobilize efforts and resources to tackle mental health issues.
This year the theme for World Mental Health Day celebration is Mental Health Promotion; Suicide Prevention.
This day gives us an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues. In all jurisdictions, it is observed that, suicide is common among ages 15 – 29 years and you will agree with me that this age group is the cream de la cream of the youth.
WHO estimates that, in every 40 seconds someone loses their life to suicide and the estimates also has it that 800,000 people lose their lives to suicide in a year. I am glad that you join us today to create awareness on this important challenge.
What are the things that we can do to prevent suicide?
Let us join clubs in our schools/ adolescent clubs
Let us talk to people who need help
Let us open up and talk to people when we need help
Let us love our children/ let us love our parents
Let us love our relatives who are in need
Let us help one another
Let us talk to people whom we know need help
If we are down, let us talk to people who can help us.

Health professionals from the mental health department of the Ketu South Municipal Hospital were present, Babanawo Courage Kwabla, Sister Vivian and host of others also spoke on suicide, causes, things to note when someone wants to commit suicide and what is suicide.

It was a memorable celebration.
