Kennedy Agyapong must be praised for asking government to apologize to Ghanaians – UG lecturer

A Political Science lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asa-Asante, has praised the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, for calling on the government to apologize to Ghanaians for the current economic hardship.

The lecturer was of the opinion that the MP’s decision to call out members of his party for mismanaging the economy indicated that some members of the NPP acknowledge that their party has failed Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show the outspoken political scientist said, “If you look at what Kennedy said, we must credit him for that. He’s done well by at least, setting the ball rolling within his party.”

Background

Mr. Agyapong, on Monday, August 5, demanded that the Akufo-Addo-led government apologize to Ghanaians for its failure to manage the country’s economy. According to the lawmaker, this would help the party convince voters to support it in the December 7 elections.

Addressing party supporters at a campaign launch in the Ablekuma South constituency, the Chairman of the Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee said “Let’s go out there with humility, apologize to Ghanaians, and admit your mistakes before you can convince anybody to vote for you. If we ignore the hardships Ghanaians are going through, they will never accept what we are saying.”

“You first have to admit that there are hardships, let’s give NPP another chance, and I know we have all learnt our lessons,” the MP added.
