Keep your corpse home: Mortuary Workers strike Thursday

Though they will sit in a meeting today, Monday, with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on their poor working conditions, mortuary workers say their decision to go on strike is resolute.

This would be the third time the mortuary workers would be embarking on strike action, after the first one in late 2018 and the second in February 2019.

The workers are protesting over poor working conditions, demands they said the government has been reluctant to resolve, despite the National Labour Commission refereeing to bring to an amicable resolution between the employer and the employee.

On May Day Wednesday, the mortuary workers say they would be at the Obra Spot to mark the Day and the next day, May 2, they would lay down their tools to resume their industrial strike.

Richard Jordan, General Secretary of the Mortuary Workers, said they are bent on their action, but they will honour the invitation extended to them by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to discuss possible ways of calming down tensions.
