Kandahar Boys leader granted GHS 10,000 bail

The leader of the pro-government vigilante group Kandahar Boys, Alhaji Baba Alhassan has been granted bail by a Tamale Magistrate Court for his role in the attacks on the CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The court presided over by Justice Anthony Aduku Aidoo admitted the suspect to bail of GHS10, 000 with three sureties.

The sureties must be residents of Tamale and be government workers earning not less than GHS1,000. They are also to submit their passport photos to the Court Registrar.

Counsel for the accused, Mohammed Shaibu, told the court that the onus of prosecution lies on the prosecutor.

According to him, the facts, as presented by the prosecutor, do not show that there was any attempt by the accused person to steal anything at the hospital or harm anyone.

He argued further that the accused person was not part of those who were captured on video driving out the TTH CEO. Nonetheless, he said the suspect has demonstrated remorse about the incident.

The lawyer said the charge levelled against the accused person is a misdemeanor.

He prayed the court to grant his client his liberty, arguing that the suspect is a known person in Tamale and, therefore, cannot hide from the court.

The case has been adjourned to 3 September 2018.
