Just In: NHIA has stopped issuing new cards to subscribers due to hefty debts

Awake News sources at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says, the Authority’s heavy indebtedness to suppliers has forced the Authority to stop issuing new cards to subscribers.

The only service the NHIA renders, at the moment, is renewal.

The sources disclosed that all NHIA offices across the country are overwhelmed with large numbers of new subscribers-both first timers and existing subscribers whose cards have been exhausted and so have register for new ones-are asked to go home.

“We don’t know when we’ll start issuing new cards,” our sources said.

The fees for new subscribers are GHc30 and GHc8 for adults and children below 18 years respectively, the sources explained.
