Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, known as Kwaku Azar has opinioned that the Judicial Service of Ghana is telling Ghanaians to keep “your unwanted thoughts to yourselves”.

This is contained in a response to portions of a press statement to some media houses admonishing some of them that have published “hateful, spiteful, vengeful and incendiary” comments about the Justices of the Supreme Court hearing the 2020 election petition of former President John Dramani Mahama, to pull or cause to be pulled down and cleared from their platforms.

The professor said, “there you have it! We are largely uneducated and not well-informed so be grateful for the televised election petition but keep your unwanted thoughts to yourself”.

In a social media post he stated among others, the Judicial Service notes that “where the population consists largely of uneducated or not very well-informed people, it is necessary to take a stricter view of what criticism may be allowed of the justice system, the reason being that although the administration of justice must suffer the respectful though outspoken [not inciteful, hateful or spiteful] comments of ordinary men, it must not be adversely interfered with and/or brought into dispute.”

The Service is therefore, among others, “demanding that those media houses, as well as all others, “prevent the publication of such statements and speeches on your platforms”, and “forthwith, exercise the highest level of discernment, discretion and responsibility insofar as the publication of statements and speeches regarding the administration of justice is concerned”.

OK, there you have it! We are largely uneducated and not well-informed so be grateful for the televised election petition but keep your unwanted thoughts to yourself.

#SALL is the cardinal sin of the 8th Parliament. It cannot be silenced no matter who feels offended by the call for the proper thing to be done.
