Black Stars coach Otto Addo has explained that Jordan Ayew is more than just a striker who scores goals. Otto Ado’s comment follows the striker’s unblemished display against the Central African Republic on Monday, June 10, 2024.
He said that apart from scoring goals, Jordan Ayew works very well defensively and is tactically intelligent. Otto Addo said due to his tactical adaptability, the striker is often used for different roles in the team including playing as a winger.
“I know that strikers are always judged by goals but he is a striker who can work defensively and tactically very intelligent.”
Otto Addo added that due to that people don’t often see his output. He said the common measure for a striker is goals but Jordan Ayew provides more than just goals but people do not see that part of him.
“That’s why sometimes you can use him as a winger because he closes everything down, he works hard and people don’t see this often.”
Jordan Ayew was in an imperious form for the Black Stars against the Central African Republic in Kumasi on Monday night. The Crystal Palace attacker scored a second half brace to complete a hat-trick that ensured Ghana emerged with maximum points thanks to another goal from Fatawu Issahaku.
Jordan Ayew’s goals against the Central African Republic were his fourth in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Ghana. That also added meant he has now scored in his last 5 appearances for the country; a total of 8 goals in that period. His tally for the country is now 27 goals for the national team.
