The 2020 flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) John Dramani Mahama will tonight speak on the just-ended election and its related matters.

He is expected to address the nation today, Wednesday, December 30, at 8 pm.

It would be aired on all the media platforms in and outside the country.

This follows the successful filing of a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential results as declared by the Electoral Commission.

A statement issued by Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the General Secretary of the NDC and sighted by Awake News, the party said the petition was filed after an audit of the 2020 Presidential results and extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the NDC.

“The petition details serious violations of the 1992 Constitution by the Electoral Commission and its Chairperson and Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa in the conduct of their constitutional and legal responsibilities.

“It seeks among others, a declaration from the Supreme Court to the effect that, the purported declaration of the results of the 2020 Presidential Election on the 9th day of December 2020 is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever”, portion of the statement said.

The Leadership of the NDC rejected the results and urged their supporters to peacefully protest across the country to register their displeasure.

Whereas the Commission’s boss, Jean Mensa on Tuesday, December 9, had announced that the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo polled 6,730, 413 (51.59%) of the total votes cast, the NDC’s John Mahama garnered 6, 214, 889 (47.36%) of the total votes cast.

But the former President and the NDC maintain that the verdict was fabricated to favour the incumbent government.

The commission as part of their activities that were not backed by the opposition parties, compiled new voters register with the majority of these political parties and Civil Society Organizations opposing the idea and suggesting a transfer of the old data into the new devices since the commission said the old devices were obsolete.

Subsequently, the commission organized the 2020 elections and declared wrong presidential results, and later resort to correcting it six times.

However, the opposition NDC rejected the verdict upon the first declaration, saying the election was flawed. This has since sparked a lot of controversies within the political space with a few academia’s supporting the NDC’s stance of padding of figures in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
