Japan books a date with Black Queens in pre-Olympic friendly

Black Queens of Ghana

Japan’s National Women’s Team, Nadeshiko Japan, will play Ghana’s senior female national team, the Black Queens in an international friendly in July. The Asian country wants to use the clash against the West African side to prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

While Ghana could not make the grade after falling to Zambia, 4-3 on aggregate, Japan booked their place in the quadrennial showpiece in France. The Black Queens under coach Nora have been impressive and would prove a stern test for Nadeshiko Japan.

Japan has been one of the best performers at international tournaments and remains one of only five teams to have won the FIFA Women’s World Cup. They also claimed silver in the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Ghana after failing to qualify for the Olympics has since been inactive for the past three months. They will use the match as a preparatory game for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in September.

Meanwhile, Japan has been a bit active lately. Since securing a ticket to Paris in February against North Korea, the Nadeshiko Japan has played at the SheBelieves Cup in April. They placed third after losing to Brazil 0-3 on penalties.

The match will be played at the Kanazawa Go-Go Curry Stadium in Ishikawa on July 13.
