Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana

I learnt President Akufo-Addo made a statement to the effect that the Acting Auditor General has done things Mr Domelevo couldn’t do.

When at all will President Akufo Addo stop this pettiness.

Please Mr President don’t think that we are children to always swallow petty statements you make to defend your wicked actions taken against people who are ready to fight corruption simply because you think that they will expose you.

There is no specific number of statutory reports that the Auditor General must report on to Parliament.

Article 187 (2) of the Constitution says ‘the Public Accounts of Ghana and of all public offices………shall be audited and reported on by the Auditor General’. There is no where in the Constitution that the Auditor General is required to present 12 reports as statutory reports to Parliament.

Over the years, Auditor Generals have been submitting the following reports annually to Parliament;
1. The Consolidated Accounts of Ghana
2. Statement of Foreign Exchange Receipts and Payment of the Bank of Ghana
3. Statutory Boards and Corporations
4. Ministries, Departments and Agencies
5. Technical Universities and Polytechnics
6. Management and Utilization of District Assembly Common Fund
7. Account of District Assemblies
8. Pre-Tertiaries Educational Facilities.

Above reports have become the annual statutory reports all previous Auditor Generals have reported on including Mr Domelevo and the current Auditor General.
In addition to these annual reports, Performance Audit Reports which are not submitted to Parliament on annual basis have also been submitted by all previous AGs.

Mr Domelevo have also submitted a number of Performance Audit Reports. Notably among them are the Performance Audit report on auction of unserviceable vehicles by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Ghana Health Service. Another Performance Audit report submitted to Parliament by Mr Domelevo is the Drug Use in Ghana by the Food and Drugs Authority.

It is therefore erroneous for the President to make this pettiness statement that the current Acting Auditor General did things Mr Domelevo couldn’t do.

Mr President, you have goofed again.
