IYAS lauds women lead in leadership role; disagrees with Akufo-Addo

Nana Addo

President Akufo-Addo

The Intelligent Youth of Afadzato South (IYAS) has described as positive development, women’s deep involvement in politics and leadership roles in the District whiles disagreeing with President Akufo-Addo who said  about the 52 percent Ghanaian women lacking enthusiasm for the pursuit of higher positions in leadership.

According to the group in a press statement copied Awake News and signed by its Communication Team Member, Samuel Kwame said women role in leadership and politics in the district “was rekindled during the 2016, NDC parliamentary primaries”

“For the first time in history of one of the districts competitive electoral contest, three (3) women in the person of Hon. Angela Oforiwa Alorwu Tay (MP), Hon. Augusta Kafui Takyi, and Hon. Suzzy Afua Adoboe, contested in a venture that was known by many as male oriented endeavor with other three (3) masculine counterparts” – the statement revealed

“This contest became on the heels of the then member of parliament, Hon. J.Z Amenorwode’s, decision to throw his towel into the ring for a quit after three (3) successive terms in the house.

The contest, as keenly and contentious as it was with statistic favorably pointing to the  historical antecedents to the disadvantage to the feminine lineage, shockingly saw Hon. Angela Oforiwa Alorwu Tay, elected winner with a galloping margin. The second ‘runner up’ of the contest, Hon. Augusta Kafui Takyi, further surprisingly got many astounded as she was according to comments new to the body politics of the district and debutant in the contest”

The group said it is therefore erroneous for the President of Ghana to suggest in his recent comment at the just ended Women Deliver Conference in Vancouver, Canada, that about the 52 percent Ghanaian women lacking enthusiasm for the pursuit of higher positions in leadership.

“This could not be true and having place in the Afadzato South District” – the group emphasized.

“The Intelligent Youth of Afadzato South, (IYAS) has therefore wished to state that, women of the district are fearlessly strong, hardworking and exceptional, and thus, do not share in the presidents debasing qualification” – the statement added

FEMINISM & AFADZATO SOUTH DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP IN THE HOUSE OF PEOPLE’S REPRESENTATIVE

The Intelligent Youth of Afadzato South (IYAS), have identify in one of its investigation that, the feminine capture of the Afadzato South Constituency seat in the house of people’s representative (Parliament), will remain in that swing for a very long uncertain time. This assurance came about as a result of the unrelenting enthusiasm exhibited by women in the district for political office and as well in other challenging endeavors over the years that previously were male dominated.

This positive development by women of the district was rekindled during the 2016, NDC parliamentary primaries. For the first time in history of one of the districts competitive electoral contest, three (3) women in the person of Hon. Angela Oforiwa Alorwu Tay (MP), Hon. Augusta Kafui Takyi, and Hon. Suzzy Afua Adoboe, contested in a venture that was known by many as male oriented endeavor with other three (3) masculine counterparts.

This contest became on the heels of the then member of parliament, Hon.

Augusta Kafui Takyi, further surprisingly got many astounded as she was according to comments new to the body politics of the district and debutant in the contest.

Although, allegations has it that there were some identified machinations causing the low performance of some actors. It can be deduced from the achievements of these ladies, Afadzato South, has a solid feminine command base and positive enthusiasm towards the running of stakes in the district for a good length of time ‘all things being equal’.

In that regard, the recent comment by the President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo, at the just ended Women Deliver Conference in Vancouver Canada, about the 52 percent Ghanaian women lacking enthusiasm for the pursuit of higher positions in leadership could not be true and having place in the Afadzato South District.

The Intelligent Youth of Afadzato South, (IYAS) has therefore wished to state that, women of the district are fearlessly strong, hardworking and exceptional, and thus, do not share in the presidents debasing qualification. We are thereby with all equivocations distancing women of Afadzato from the president’s distasteful comment and urging them to continue forging ahead strongly in the spirit of ascending political leadership roles in the district.

We wish to call on women from all the political divides in the district, most especially to NPP parliamentary candidate for 2012, Mrs. Millicent Kartey, to reconsider availing herself for her party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries in order to lead the 2020 parliamentary race as it promises to be run the commonwealth of all females.

IYAS, wish to remind Mrs. Millicent that, the feminist political revolution in Afadzato South district is partly owed to her as one of the pacesetter of female participation. We are by dint of that recognition counting on her rich political experience come 2020 general election and beyond to giving the NDC a good run of contest.

Finally, IYAS want to reiterate its resolve to remain positive, but critical on all manner of persons lacing their boots to bear political duties of the district in the light of competence and demonstration towards development of the district without fear or favor. We shall give audience to all and project causes for the best of Afadzato South District.

# Long Live IYAS.

# Long Live Afadzato South District.

# Progress to Afadzato Women, Progress for All.
