Steven Gerrard
Former England International and Liverpool icon, Steven Gerrard has been appointed by Rangers Football Club on a four- year deal.
Gerrard 37, replaces Greame Murty, who was hired for a short term following the dismissal of Pedro Caixinha since October last year.
[ads1]The former Liverpool captain has been in charge of the Youth team of Liverpool since hanging up his boots after a glittering career for both Liverpool and England.
“I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers”, Gerrard told Rangers’ website.
“I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition. I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this club has achieved.”
Gerrard made 710 appearances and won nine trophies for Liverpool over 19 years and was capped 114 times by England. He retired in 2016 after a spell with LA Galaxy and joined the youth set-up at Anfield.
Club Chairman David King said: “From the very beginning, talks have been extremely positive and we believe that Steven is the right man to drive Rangers forward.
“He was extremely impressive throughout our negotiations and we are convinced that he has the necessary knowledge and temperament to lead the club to the success we all desire.
“This a special day for our club, our fans and for Steven”.
The club added that Gerrard’s backroom staff would be announced in due time.
