Investigate death threats on Manasseh – UPDN tells CID

Manasseh Azure Awuni

Manasseh Azure Awuni

The United Press for Development Network (UPDN), is calling on the Ghana Police Service to as a matter of urgency, commence an investigation into the alleged death threats on the life of Manasseh Azure Awuni.

The group says it has “observed with keen interest, threats on the life of Multimedia Group Limited Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni as made public by Accra based Radio XYZ show host, Mugabe Maase.”

Host of Radio XYZ ‘Inside Politics’ claims he has credible evidence regarding plans to murder Manasseh and advised security agencies to take preventive actions.

Salifu Mugabe Maase alleged the NPP is not happy with the Investigative journalist for exposing the party in his undercover work on De-Eye Group.

Police has, however, invited Mugabe to the CID Headquarters later today to provide leads in investigating the alleged threats.

The UPDN in a statement said, Mugabe’s invitation by the police is timely as that may also help find killers of Tiger Eye PI investigator, Ahmed Hussein Suale.

PRESS STATEMENT

TUESDAY MARCH 12, 2019

BRAVE JOURNALIST MANASSEH AZURE DEATH THREAT: SET FORENSIC INVESTIGATION, FIND CULPRITS AND PROSECUTE THEM BY LAW: WE WILL NOT BE TAKEN BY SURPRISE AGAIN!!!

United Press for Development Network (UPDN) has observed with keen interest, threats on the life of Multimedia Group Limited Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awine as made public by Accra based Radio XYZ show host, Mugabe Maase.

We have also noticed the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service invitation of Mr. Mugabe in a letter dated Monday March 11, 2019, signed by the Director General of Police CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Dankwa.

The letter asked the management of Radio XYZ to release Mugabe to enable him to meet a CID officer at 4pm on Tuesday March 12, 2019 for interrogation into what we (UPDN) find very revealing leads to not only find culprits of the murder of Tiger Eye PI Investigator Ahmed Hussein Suale but also provide protection to Mr. Manasseh Azure Awine.

As a responsible press freedom and media advocacy organization, we are by this statement commending the Ghana Police Service’s CID for it prompt action and respectively request President Akufo-Addo to take personal interest into the case and make sure forensic investigation finds faces behind the threats and prosecute them by law, accordingly.

The gruesome murder of one of Africa’s brave journalists Ahmed Hussein Suale with Tiger Eye PI in January, 2019 at Madina-Accra is very fresh on our minds and there is or will be no room for another shock or surprises to Ghana’s media (investigative journalism industry).

As we commend Anas Aremyaw Anas (Tiger Eye PI) on his latest documentary on “Galamsey Fraud” and ask government to expedite action into the matter, we also laud the efforts of Manasseh Azure Awine (Multimedia Group Limited) in disclosing the ambitious party Militias that pitched camp at Castle in his “Militias in the Heart of the Nation” documentary.

Ghanaian Journalist and Journalists practicing in Africa’s most freest press country deserves more than what is currently happening, and we call on Government to do more to boost confidence of the so called fourth arm of government.

Long live Press Freedom
Long live Ghanaian Media
Long live United Press for Development Network

Yours sincerely,
