By Cletus Abaare

Hon. Dan Abodakpi, an aspiring Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), yesterday  Wednesday, 12, 2018, amidst drumming and dancing stormed the National Headquarters of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to file his forms for [ads1]the hot race with a call for an issue-based campaign.

Mr. Abodakpi, who is a former Ghana’s Ambassador to Malaysia, after successfully filing his nomination forms, stated that he is the best bet to hold the chairmanship position of the largest opposition party.

According to him, he stands tall among the other contenders who have also filed their nominations for the national chairmanship post and cautioned the rank-and-file of the NDC, especially the delegates not to allow themselves to be deceived by anyone to make a wrong choice since the party in opposition needed strong and decisive leadership to be able to recapture power come 2020.

The former Ambassador said, it was critical to question the aspirants on their plans to address challenges facing the party in order not to allow the fortunes of the party to decline further.

Hon Joe Kwashie Gidisu, who spoke to The National Tribute after the filling, on behalf of Hon Abodapbi stated “This election has to be based on issues on how to enhance the fortunes of the party. I therefore, call on the delegates to be discerning and not to be deceived with gifts from aspirants.”

According to the former Minister for Roads and Highways, the delegates have the key to saving the party, and that making the wrong choices would be detrimental to the party.

“Our delegates should know that selling their votes for handouts from aspirants will destroy the party,” he said.

Touching on his vision for the party, he disclosed that Hon. Abodakpi’s prime aim is to reconnect the party to its mass base, and drive the party in accordance to its core values of grass root participation.

“He would be relying on his vast knowledge and experience as a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta Constituency in the Volta Region for for 16 years and a diplomat to Reconnect And Rejuvenate with the Grassroots”, he stated.

He furthered, that Hon. Abodakpi has the ability to change the trend and to lead for the progress of the party, and called for the total and unflinching support of the delegates for the former Ambassador to become the national Chairman.

“Hon. Abodakpi first main task if giving the knot as the national Chairman is to save the party from further losing touch with the mass of cadres and grassroots members who have sacrificed for it over the years,” he said.

According to him, the former Trade Minister, is convinced that he would help in protecting the integrity of the party’s leadership in driving the growth of the party.

Hon  Gidisu said, the aspirant stands for unity and when given the nod will do everything possible to bring everyone on board especially party Cadres, former executives, and the youth to help wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Hon Abodapbi will ensure there is unity and harmony within the party leadership and the members of the grassroots. This will enable us whip up the needed enthusiasm of all members, whether  branch executives, constituency executives, regional executives or all other members within the party to help reach our ultimate goal” he reiterated.

According to him, the former chairman of the Free Zones Board, when he is elected, will also work to implement “economic empowerment” for the party’s members to enable them to resource the party at all levels.
