I’m against Afoko, Agyepong suspension – Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor with suspended General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong

Former President John Kufuor has revealed that he was against the suspension of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong from their executive positions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said he had hoped that the party leadership would have resolved their differences with the national chairman and general secretary [ads1]instead of asking them to step aside.

The two leading executives were suspended by the elephant family few months to the 2016 elections over acts the party described as inimical to their political fortunes.

In recent times, there have been mounting calls for the reinstatement of Mr. Agyepong, who has been present at public events organized by the party despite his suspension. He told the media in Kumasi during the party’s recently held special delegates congress that his recall by the party is long overdue.

“Of course, I think being on suspension for over two years is too long. I think our constitution doesn’t provide for that, it didn’t envisage the General Secretary of the party to be absent from his job for two years, it’s not there but I hope that good sense will prevail, I mean I’m happy with myself, I thank God for the heart that I have, I’m very content,” he said.

Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Mr. Kufuor said he prays the NPP will resolve whatever challenge they have with the suspended officers and bring them back into its fold.

“I wasn’t for the suspension of Kwabena Agyepong and Afoko in the first place, I was not for it. I was hoping what happened could have been resolved but things got out of hands and it’s my prayer that things are resolved”
