NDC’s Amos writes: Nigerians voted for change but disunity denied them – A Lesson NDC Must Learn

Ghana’s day of shame – 24th February 1966

On January 7, 2019, the NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo will be exactly two years in office. It would be halfway through the four-year mandate.

President Akufo Addo in opposition promised Ghanaians he will change Ghana in 18 months if Ghanaians voted for him. As expected, it is time for stocktaking and assessment of his performance vis-a-vis the promise he made. How the President and his government have fared since its inauguration on January 7, 2017 is the issue on board. The President and his party made a number of promises. It is based on these promises that Ghanaians want to appraise the achievements or failure of the administration. Many Ghanaians were of the hope that the nation’s [ads1]governance architecture was going to change because of candidate Akufo Addo’s body language and the sweet promises.

This is the state of Ghana after 18 months in office.

– Ghana is rated among the ten dirtiest countries in Africa. Nana promised Ghanaians will make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

-Spare parts business has collapses

-Seven banks have collapsed with more to follow

-Freight Forwarding business is collapsing

-Investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy has dropped according to the World Bank, Barclays South Africa and the US Embassy Ghana. The Former US Ambassador in Ghana Robert Jackson described Ghana as the most investor-friendly environment in West Africa in 2016.

-Ghana is going for a $100 billion century loan. Ghana issued a $2.25 billion bond and has borrowed Ghc 40 billion within the 18 months. Candidate Akufo Addo promised Ghanaians he will not borrow.

-NOT FOR SALE fertilizer is being sold to cocoa farmers

-Fuel price go up every week

-All government projects started by the previous administration have been abandoned

-Nurses, teachers and other professionals are demonstrating over bad policies of the administration and failure of the government to employ newly trained personnel.

-Crime rate has increased

-Unemployment has quadrupled because of the collapse of the banks and other businesses

-For the first time in the soccer history of Ghana the National league was suspended over corruption issues

-Investors are leaving the country

-Prices of goods and services increase every week

-The National Health Insurance Scheme is collapsing

-Vigilante groups have taken over the security of the country harnessing judges, security capos, ministers and innocent citizens

– The President is rated among the 10 most corrupt leaders in Africa.

During the 2016 campaign, candidate Akufo Addo and his party gave Ghanaians the impression that they knew what the problems were with the country and had solutions to all the problems. They raised our expectations with their fantastic promises including the one Village one dam, one district one factory, one constituency $1 million.

Eighteen months and we are yet to see the dams, the factories. What the President has successfully achieved are

– Appointing his daughter into his government

-54 family members into his government

-Given us another holiday to celebrate his father and grandfather

-Appointed 1,650 staffers
– Appointed 110 ministers
-Sacked the EC boss and made the EC another NPP agency
