I will operate a lean gov’t, cut down expenditure by GH¢30bn – Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to lead a lean government and would cut down government expenditure by at least GH¢30 billion.

The NPP’s flagbearer commented on the size of government he would lead if elected when he addressed the nation on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. During the address, Mahamudu Bawumia promised to work with a few Ministers and Deputy Ministers not more than 50.

Despite his earlier promise that he’d “have no more than 50 ministers and deputy ministers,” members of the clergy in the Northern Region wanted assurance. They asked him during his campaign tour in the region what he would do about the oversized government he is currently part of.

In response, the Vice President reminded the religious leaders of his promise to operate a lean government.

“I have made it clear and even stated that I want to bring down government expenditure and the size of government by at least 3 per cent of GDP, which is about GH¢30 billion over the next four years and I have also made it clear that I will have no more than 50 ministers, which is also to say I want to bring the size of government down.”

He promised to protect the public purse and efficiently disburse public funds to undertake socially beneficial projects.
