Ghana’s former Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor says crime is rare when policing is very close to the citizenry.
Likening policing to daily activities on the street and ‘gutters’ where everybody knows everybody and so closeness to one another hardly breeds evil, Mr Kudalor said it was in view of that, that IGP Mohammed Alhassan, his predecessor, introduced Police Visibility across the country.
“It was a strategy we saw in Algeria and so Mr Mohammed Alhassan, our IGP before me, tasked Mr Dampare, our current IGP, and me to implement it and the successes that policing brought to Ghana are enormous for the citizenry to recount,” Mr John Kudalor said in an interview to Power FM on Tuesday.
Expressing his disgust at the high spate of crime in the country, Mr Kudalor evinced his immense confidence in the current IGP, saying, “He understands policing and I can bet my last he will fight crime especially as I gather that he is going to reintroduce Police Visibility, a programme he heavily contributed and took charge.”
Mr Kudalor, on that note, implored Ghanaians to be confident in Mr Dampare-Akufo and give him their unflinching support as he readies to take the fight against crime to the criminals.
