Smart political science lecturer from the University of Ghana, Prof Ransord Gyampo has been scammed by vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. A day after UTAG decided to suspend it’s strike, Prof Gyampo took to social to shower praises on Dr Bawumia and the talkative Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum for the roles they played leading to the suspension.
Prof Gyampo wrote: “…Thankfully level headed leaders like the Vice President and the Minister of Education were humane enough in empathizing with our poor conditions of service and demonstrated palpable commitment towards bringing a finality to the impasse.”
Barely a month after this praise, Prof Gyampo is back screaming on social media over how the Akufo Addo/Bawumia government sweet-talked UTAG into suspending it’s strike only to adopt a lukewarm attitude. Apparently, after Dr Bawumia pretended to shed crocodile tears to UTAG over their plight to hoodwink them into believing he cared about them and was going to do everything possible for their demands to met within a month, the Vice President then went into hibernation. Neither him nor his government showed commitment to seeing to it the agreement reached before the strike was suspended was met.
Indeed, Prof Gyampo narrated how Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, has since the suspension of the strike, failed to attend any of the negotiation meetings, save to send representatives. An indication that the Finance Minister, at all times, had pressing issues to attend to than sit in negotiation with UTAG. When Prof Gyampo called the attention of President Akufo Addo and Dr Bawumia to this shabby treatment by the finance Minister and implored them to call him to order, the ‘level-headed’ Dr Bawumia could not exert his influence on Ken Ofori Atta as was required of him.
The Vice President could not do that because of one of two reasons – either he was not committed to his promise to UTAG to get the issues resolved, or his authority as Vice President does not extended to the man he has sheepishly followed to Parliament and uncontrollably nodded to his budget statement presentations. May be the Vice President agreed to take his ‘follow back’ role so far as Ken Ofori Atta was concerned in this UTAG issue.
It was surprising that, as smart as Prof Gyampo is, he allowed himself to be scammed by Dr Bawumia who has proven to be a well labelled scumbag. Anybody who believes Dr Bawumia today might have dropped from the moon. His own Samira Bawumia knows how deceptive and dishonest her husband has fast become.
A level-headed Vice President, as Prof Gyampo described him a month ago, would not sit aloof after making promises to UTAG to see things deteriorate to this level. Given another opportunity, I doubt if Prof Gyampo will give Dr Bawumia that description. I am sure he has regretted showering praises on him.
