A self-constituted group named BE BOLD marked and celebrated a Year Anniversary of the “victory” of the Hohoe Constituency MP, Hon. John Peter Amewu. This pro NPP group seem to have been obviously patting the shoulders of this MP instead of impressing on him to apologize for the disappointment himself and the entire NPP Government have caused the people of the Hohoe Constituency in particular and Ghanaians in general.
For the records, Hon. Amewu in the run-up to the 2020 general elections visited every nook and cranny of human habitat in the constituency – Hohoe, Fodome, Gbledi, Wli and Alavanyo to make known to the people mouth-watering and sugar-coated promises. Some of the promises were that every family would be entitled to one opportunity (Jobs), that the Segbedeme road would be completed before the 2020 elections, that the Hohoe Sports Stadium would be completed in earnest, that the Wli Community would have a Senior High School fully furnished among others.
It is interesting to note and disheartening to remember that none of these promises has seen the light of day. The numerous hopeful young people who believed the crafted words of Hon. Amewu then are now in absolute dejection, hopelessness and abject frustration because their hopes and aspirations have been dashed. The people of Segbedeme now virtually bath dust because of the nature of the abandoned work on the road. The Zongo community and the entire footballing community of Hohoe are rather devastated at the pace of work of the Amewu-promised stadium. The people of Wli and its environs who were once joyous of the seemingly candid promise are today saddened by the state of the purported Wli Senior High School.
Factually, Hon. Amewu and the Health Minister rushed to the people of Hohoe on 13th June 2019 to officially pronounce the Hohoe Government Hospital as Regional Hospital owing to the fact that the facility was the highest recipient of Out Patients estimated to be 112,000 patients yearly. Coupled with that, the 64-year old hospital was touted to have served the entire enclave: Jasikan, Worawora, Santrokofi, Likpe, Akpafu, Lolobi among others, hence the need for the upgrade to Regional status. The chiefs and people of Gbi welcomed the news and promise with the consolation that it was coming from Hon. Amewu and the Government. Till date, no single arrangement can be conspicuously seen about the 400-bed capacity hospital. Not even the name has changed.
As if those promises were not enough for Hon. Amewu to start fulfilling them, he went ahead a few days ago again to promise the people a dual-carriage road linking Fodome and Hohoe, an existing road that has graduated its “potholes” to almost “manholes”.
My humble appeal to this group (BE BOLD) is that they should advise Hon. Amewu to rather renders an unqualified apology to the people of the Constituency not celebrating him as they did last Saturday 8th January 2022.
The entire Constituency is really disappointed in the level of deception of the NPP Government as a whole, and the youth are really bitter.
