Hockey: GRA wins 2017 Sapholda League

The Male and female hockey teams from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) made history last weekend at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium when the two clubs defied all odds to win the 2017 Sapholda hockey league.

This is the first time in over six years since the two won teams won the prestigious trophy at the same time.

GRA Men sealed their win after a 2-1 defeat to Trustees from SSNIT last Saturday. GRA’s Isaac Moses scored gave his side their goal in the 14th minutes and Michael Boateng Akuamoah added one more in the 40th minute.

SWAG Award winner and Trustees’ playmaker Johnny Botsio got the consolation goal for his side in the 55th minute of the game.

GRA Ladies also defeated Reformers Ladies from the Ghana Prisons Service by four unanswered goals to win the ladies category of the league while Sapholda also won the Masters category of the league Real Ambassadors also won the Youth category.

In the last round of matches played to end the season, Exchequers from the Bank of Ghana defeated Ark Men by 5-0 with goals from Bempah Daniel Nana, Kemevor Serlom, Mensah Samuel, Arthur Ebenezer and Obeng Emmanuel.

Multistix also won 3-2 against Citizens International while Sapholda finished the season with 5-3 win over NDK Financiers with Ark Ladies losing 0-4 to Reformers Ladies and Police Ladies winning 7-0 against Real Ambassadors.

Unconfirmed reports reaching Awake Sports has it that Ghana is likely to host the 2017 Africa Club Championship later in the year is the country’s request is approved by the Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF).

Ghana would be presented by GRA Ladies and Police Ladies in the Ladies’ category while GRA Men and Trustees also represent the country in the Men’s category.
