GWBF demands clarity on the released GNPC Sports Development Funds

Mr. Wilson Agbesi, General Secretary, Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation

Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation demands more clarification about the released of sports development fund from the Ministry of Youth and Sports

According to the General Secretary of Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Mr. Wilson Agbesi, the year has begun and he thinks it will best for Sports Ministry to come out with a roadmap on how the various federation will benefit from the GNPC Sports Development fund [ads1]that has been released by GNPC since last year.

“I think the silence on the side of the Ministry is not the best but rather it will speak well of the Ministry if a roadmap is drawn for all federation as far as the funds, transparency and protect the public purse is concerned” – Mr. Agbesi told Awake Sports

Mr Agbesi also raises the concerns on the budget approved by the ministry and how it is going to directly benefit the federation and disability sports in general. He cautions the situations where there is always this “no money syndrome” when it comes to disability sports after the greater part of the funds have been channelled to only football.

He bemoaned how SWAG and other sports writers have to be asking questions related to how to fund local sports but only focus much on foreign base sports news.

“It is sad that SWAG and other sports writers in recent times rather than promoting the welfare of sports in Ghana focus much attention on international sporting issues” – Mr. Agbesi said

The disability sports enthusiast urged SWAG to speed up its games and get down to the ground and fight for the promotion of sports in Ghana and give equal attention to the promotion of general sports in the country rather than focusing on SWAG awards night.

Mr. Agbesi is also calling on other corporate bodies to on board in promoting the development of sports in the country like what GNPC.

He also expressed confidence in the “leadership of Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports, his Deputy Hon. Pius Enam Hadzide, together with our hardworking Director General of the Sports Authority and his great deputy Mr Saka” that he calls for the road map of the use of the funds will be brought to the notice of all federation.
