A Social Activist, Joseph Kofi-Gakpo has admonished Guinea revolutionist, Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, to stay in power for at least eight(8) years and stir the affairs of the state with right feasible reforms before handing over to civilians.

According to him, Colonel Doumbouya is the rightful owner of ideas, dreams and positive emotions for the people of Guinea which gingered him to have the courage and risk his life and the life of his loyal platoon.

Soldiers led by the Commander of Guinea’s special forces, Colonel Doumbouya Mamady on Sunday, September 5, 2021, ousted President Alpha Conde and took over reigns of power after about two hours of a gun battle in the country’s capital.

Kofi-Gakpo tasked him not to consigned power to the civilians to ignite another coup, citing he might not be lucky as late Jerry John Rawlings who handed over power to elected civilian president Limann, who promptly retired him from the air force.

“To stage coup is not an easy thing. Colonel must spare himself the headache and not handover power to civilians who may mess up and call for another coup like JJ Rawlings did. He might not be lucky like JJ Rawlings”.

“Stay on for 8 years Sir. Put fear in the system before you handover the power to civilian else Guinea masses won’t forgive you”.

It will be recalled that, on June 4, 1979, Rawlings and other junior officers led a successful military coup with the purported aim of purging the military and public life of widespread corruption. He and his Armed Forces Revolutionary Council ruled for 112 days, during which time the former heads of state, Gen. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong and Lieut. Gen. Frederick W.K. Akuffo was tried and executed.

Rawlings then yielded power to a freely elected civilian president, Hilla Limann, who hastily retired Rawlings from the air force.

However, Rawlings continued to be a popular figure, and on December 31, 1981, after two years of weak civilian rule amid which Ghana’s economy continued to deteriorate, Rawlings overthrew Limann’s government, accusing it of leading the nation “down to total economic ruin.”

Meanwhile, Kofi-Gakpo wished the people of Guinea republic well, and urged “everyone to keep the success of the colonel in prayers”.
