GRNMA Congress: Aspirants suspend campaign in solidarity with Ruth Eshun

Aspirants in Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Delegates’ Congress in the Volta Region, in the past two days have tuned low their campaign tones in order to call for justice over the suspected rape and murder of Ms Ruth Ama Eshun.

Ruth Eshun who was a registered community health nurse and served at Sewua health centre in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region was found dead a few hours after a school health outreach program.

The National Executives of the GRNMA, have since issued a communiqué about the incidence, while the members and the general public have started a massive social media campaign with the hashtag #Justice4RuthEshun to call authorities to order for due justice to be served.

In solidarity with the deceased and her family, the aspirants for the various regional positions of the association in the Volta region have halted their campaigns for the meantime to push for justice.

They have turned low the keys on sharing their campaigns messages and flyers to concentrate on seeking for justice rather.

According to Israelmore Ayivor, who is aspiring to be elected as the regional PRO, the idea of the suspension of the campaign was individually motivated and not collectively decided, but it is in the right direction to tell the world that life is essential.

“We all have like minds and so we thought of this individually without any formal directive to suspend our campaign”, he said.

He, however, noted that since the decision to suspend the campaign was never a directive from the hierarchy of the GRMNA, aspirants would need no directive as to when to resume the campaign.

Mr Ayivor further added that “presently, we need more forces to push for the quest for justice and that is the most important thing for us now. What happened to Ruth can happen to any member of GRNMA and so justice for her is good hope for all.”

The Volta Regional GRNMA delegates’ congress is scheduled to come off on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
