The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is lacing its boots to recapture power in 2024 after losing marginally to the ruling New Patriotic Party -NPP in the 2020 election which the latter has since contested at the Supreme Court of Ghana.
For the NDC to achieve their comeback dreams, some analysts say will be based on how formidable they will be at the grassroots, the strength of their leadership, and most importantly their leadership in some key regions in the country.
Awake Election Watch has been monitoring situations within the party and especially the upcoming election of new officers.
The NDC’s extraordinary performance in the 2020 elections can largely be linked to the outcome of the results of the Greater Accra Region and Central Regions in terms of the number of parliamentary seats and votes delivered to the party.
With this, it means the new or retained leadership of the party in these two regions may be crtitical in the party’s performance in 2024.
Next week, Awake Election Watch will be releasing its report first on the Chairmanship race and then other offices (Youth Organizer, Regional Organizer, General Secretary, and Women Organizer) in the Greater Accra region this September as it assesses the chances of the various candidates.
Our preliminary research reveals that the current Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer, Mr Thomas Ashong and Mr. Micheal Kwatey, former Parliamentary Candidate Aspirant at Ningo Prampram will be contesting, and should the incumbent Regional Chairman, Mr. Ade Coker decides to seek re-election, the three powerful men will battle for the Chairmanship of one of the King Maker Regions in the 2020 elections.
Stay tuned as we bring you the analysis next week.
