GPL Round 19 Review: Kotoko’s defeat marred by Poley’s death in Nsoatre

Nsoatre was so hostile to Asante Kotoko to the extent that a staunch communicator who had dedicated himself to the Ghana Premier League promotion was stabbed multiple times by a fan of Nsoatreman leading to his untimely death.

Asante Kotoko lost narrowly by 1-0 to the struggling Nsoatreman, with Gabriel Bonnah’s 76th-minute strike making the difference. Skipper Justice Blay and Camra were sent off in the 65th minute for Kotoko as Steven Diyou was also shown the red card for Nsoatreman.

The game earlier on was halted with players of both sides trading blows. It was a sign of a bad omen for the rest of the afternoon. An unknown 19-year-old Nsoatreman fan wickedly killed Kotoko’s Poley.

In other games, the Western derby ended in a goalless draw,, with Bibiani Gold Stars failing to break Samartex’s resilient.

Kelvin Obeng’s 9th-minute strike helped Aduana Stars condemn Bechem United to a 1-0 defeat.

Relegation-threatened sides Karela and Dreams secured a 2-1 victory against Berekum Chelsea and Holy Stars, respectively.

Medeama defeated Legon Cities 1-0 at the TNA Park in Tarkwa as Vision FC came from behind to beat Accra Lions 2-1.

Young Apostles secured a 2-1 win at DR Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese over Nations FC.
